BillingZ ™ E-Learning Online Platform.


Introduction

The following information is about recommendations regarding the development of an E-Learning Portal for the general public by the BillingZ Team. E-Learning is further explained including the purpose of the business requirement specification document and purpose of the functional design specification in relation to the development and subsequent sign-off and go-live on the E-Learning Portal.

Recommendations for the maintenance and support of the E-Learning Portal:

  • How often are updates to the content on the website required? We are now living in a world where the latest information needs to be communicated to the world quickly to keep people informed and interested.
  • Twitter and Instagram accounts may be beneficial because young people especially consume social media primarily on these platforms. The information tweeted or which is published on Instagram can redirect social media users to your website to find out more information.
  • A FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) page is necessary. What do people usually want to know about MTI for example?
  • Payment methods and banking details information. All the different ways in which students can pay fees, application and registration fees for example.
  • Electronic Submission of assignments which will then be integrated with the E-learning Portal.
  • Accessibility of E-Learning materials to disabled people.
  • Is there a reason why applications have to be filled in by hand and email or can we do this electronically (i.e. electronic form capture and submit) with the option of manual application form capture and email submission? This can also be integrated with E-learning.
  • Student life / affairs information. This could pertain to issues such as stress management, depression, seeking somebody to talk too, seeking accommodation etc…
  • Do you have an SRC or a student leadership council for example? If so, they could have a section on the website to discuss the happenings on campus notice board online: this could include information about examinations, assignments, tests etc...
  • Post tertiary education tips on how to apply for a job and on how to sustain a career for example. This can still be brainstormed.

    • I attended the Skills Maestro Graduate Program (in 2012) and completed courses such as Business Communication Skills, Leadership Skills, Business Writing Skills, Business Presentation Skills and Change and Conflict Management Skills. During my tenure at Bytes Technology Group, I was a member of the Byte Your Tongue Toastmaster club, as I have a keen interest in public speaking. Participation therein worked to further enhance my leadership, presentation and people skills competencies.

    E-Learning proposal

    BillingZ ™ would enjoy the pleasure of presenting a business requirements specification and a functional design specification for the E-Learning project to members of the executive committee. These documents are integral to the proposal and development of any information technology project and are required for governance.

    What is E-Learning?

    Web-based learning is commonly referred to as E-Learning or online learning. E-Learning includes learning online through the courses that are offered on the internet. This enables all the participants to give their views on a particular topic and then discuss them further. They also offer dynamic pages like course materials that are available for the benefit of all the participants. One of the main advantages of accessing pages on the web is that most of the web pages have hyperlinks that will lead you to another page and thus opens up a vast amount of information on the internet.

    Advantages of E-Learning:

  • You are able to link the various resources in several varying formats.
  • It is a very efficient way of delivering courses online.
  • Due to its convenience and flexibility, the resources are available from anywhere and at any time.
  • Everyone, who are part time students or are working full time, can take advantage of web-based learning.
  • Web-based learning promotes active and independent learning.
  • As you have access to the internet 24/7, you can train yourself anytime and from anywhere also.
  • It is a very convenient and flexible option; above all, you do not have to depend on anyone for anything.
  • Not only can you train yourself on a day-to-day basis, but also on weekends or whenever you have the free time to. There is no hard and fast rule.
  • Through discussion boards and chats, you are able to interact with everyone online and clear your doubts if any.
  • The video instructions and audio which are provided for E-Learning can be viewed and listened too repeatedly if you do not happen to understand the topic first time around.

    • Business Requirements Specification document (BRS):

    The following information, inter alia, can be found in the Business Requirements Specification:

  • The purpose of the project.
  • The Client, the Customer, and other stakeholders.
  • Users of the system.
  • The scope of the work.
  • The scope of the system.
  • Features and Functionalities.
  • Usability and Humanity Requirements.
  • Performance Requirements.

    Functional Design Specification document (FDS):

    The Functional Design Specification expands on the following in more detail:

  • Features and functionalities.
  • Database design and implementation. This is data related to users of the system and E-Learning data.
  • Business process flows for example how will the administrator of the system differ from a student or a manager in terms of system usage and access to specific features.
  • How does the user navigate the system from login to log out?
  • System Reporting requirements.

    • Information Systems Integration

    What is software integration?

    Information systems integration means combining software parts (so-called subsystems) into one system. Integrated systems demonstrate better performance comparing to the sum of all independent ones. What is more important, a holistic application delivers greater functional significance. It is more convenient to distribute and use. Integrating the BillingZ Online Learning Portal to existing E-Learning applications may be beneficial in that users of the portal for example may interact with the E-Learning applications seamlessly which then essentially becomes a “one stop shop”.
